I know that Kaase makes a hemi head that will bolt to a 429/460. Can you put an original Boss 429 head on as well. I was told by a friend that it could be machined, but need to know for sure....Thanks Ted

Yes they will bolt on but you need to do oil system mods and drain backs.

Ted,the mods are fairly simple. I've done quite a few and if I can do them anyone can. Laughing

great knowledge base here with plenty of hp to back it up!if you are going to put the stock boss 429 heads on a non boss 429 block, then you need to weld up the stock o-ring counter bores in the heads.then you can use a stock type head gaskets.there is a member on here and the 460 forum that has done this with out warping the heads.for me,i had a set done and they warped .060,and had to have them straightend out before they could mill them.but in the end, they still had more than .050 milled off both heads any way,as the shops that did the work screwed them up.thats the biggest issue with the stock boss heads, and JUST GET THE RIGHT SHOP TO DO IT!.i have seen the stock boss 429 rockers hold up with big roller cams and street driven.i have a set that had mild porting and they flow 408 at .500 lift.

Looks like im in the right place. Empty Have more quesstins on 429/460 using Boss 429 heads

Post  gasserted April 26th 2013, 12:05 am

drunken Ok, Im alot smarter on these big blocks than i was two weeks ago, but still have some unanswered questions.....I have a 460 at the machine shop waiting for them to check out and see if it is any good. I have a set of Boss 429 Pistons for a blower motor, which i am going to run a blower.....I understand that the crank and rod distance are the same on a boss as a cj. But i cannot find the pin height any where from top of pin to top of piston.....The pin's in these pistons are just shy of 1 inch in diameter...I enclosed a pic of my Boss head, i believe they may of been opened up more, but not sure. as one is a 69 and the other is a 70, but have been CC'd to match.....will my pistons work with stock length rods....i read an article, where they used a 460 crank intead of a 429. Help Ted confused

Post  hbstang April 26th 2013, 7:16 pm

have your machine shop check the comp height of the piston, rod length, and block deck height.thats the only way to know what you have and what you can use.you are going to use a an aftermarket rods and pistons for the boss heads?
