newbie bearing question Empty newbie bearing question

Post  HorsinAround April 9th 2013, 8:52 pm

Ok I did some measuring on the mains and rods tonight and on the mains the measurements are as follows

Block crank
#1 3.190 2.9995
#2 3.1905 2.9990
#3 3.1905 2.9990
#4 3.190 2.9995
#5 3.1915 3.000

Should I have the mains align honed? and what bearing size and type should I get?

Con rods 2.3245 and rod journals on crank 2.2 chromed

Con rod bearing recommendation please?

I suspect you'll have to hone the main housings to 3.193"....the high side.

The crank is toward the 'fat' side..... I suspect a half or full set of extra clearence bearings will be needed.

Thanks Lem, I checked these with a 4 place dial caliper last night. Going to double check the numbers with a set of mic's. tonight.

Also what brand/type of bearing do you recommend? coated not coated?

You'll need a dial bore gauge to check the housing bores correctly. I use ACL mostly for the rods. King, ACL, F-M, all seem to do a good job.
