871 Blower Advice Empty 871 Blower Advice

I'm thinking about maybe dumping the NOS and going to
an 871 blower on the new car (645 72 Comet)??? I'd like
a conservative, fairly low maintenance setup thats NOT
running on kill. Would like to reuse my alcohol birdcatcher
fuel system. Ive never run a race blower before so looking
for any advice from you guys that have. I've been talking
to BDS about a Stage 2, non-stripped, billet rotor model.

I have some questions for you blower guys:
Whats an optimal static compression to start with?
Will Cometic head gaskets be enough or will I have to
o-ring? What are the blower maintenance issues? Hows
the fuel injection split (%) above & below the blower?
Is an 80A pump big enough? Is the square BV okay?
What parts to avoid? Tricks & secrets? Help me guys!!!!!

An 8-71 is OK for about 500 cubic inches ... above that, (if you have a choice), it is to small

Had a 540 blue thunder heads, motorsports block. Ran a 14-71 littlefield stripped blower, 110 pump, static comp 10 to 1. Some say it is to high never had any major issues other than blown head gaskets. I used cooper gaskets with o rings in block. Square barrel valve. Thing was like a bracket motor. Was my first supercharged big block. A must is to have every thing flowed. Oddy did mine.

He's been doing this since the 60's. Great guy. Easy to talk to. He's been very helpful with mine.

Stroked 351C
BDS 6-71 large helix.
Enderle mech. injection. Awesome system.
9.8:1 compression on motor. 17 lbs of boost.
AFD heads from down under.
One mean Cleveland. 750HP on stock block. Race block and I could double the output.

I have a TBS 8-71 Teflon stripped blower. On my 489 BBC. Good blue felt pros I was told.to be okay with 12 psi of boost with no orings I have 345cc dart pro 1's on it. With 12 psi I have to spike my fuel some.if I.swap my pulleys I get 7 psi. I got 2 750 blower demons that are boost referenced.
my Compression is 8.2-1 with comp blower cam on a 114, spec's? Around
252/262 @ .050 lift is even at .651 I have started it but haven't took it for a drive yet.almost there mount seat hook.up throttle cable I can wait to install the Hood.my pulleys are 57 & 52 Tooths 10% under driven or 13.5 overdriven.

I've been running an 871 for over 8 years now on a 473 BBF, and will be moving it to a 514 soon. It's fine up to 560 cid. Your alky hat will work perfect, and because it burns cool you will be able to run fairly aggressive boost. I run about 8 to 1 compression, with alky you can get away with more. Before you spend your hard earned money I strongly suggest you talk with Don Hampton of Hampton Blowers @ 562-803-9484 He is extremely knowledgeable on Ford blower set ups, his kits are second to none. He has built kits for the guys on here running all kinds of heads including the Kaase Boss hemi heads. He is great to deal with, he's helped me a ton over the years. I've had ZERO maintenance issues with his 871. His blower also fits with std Mallory dizzys, or small cap MSD units so you don't have to shell out for an expensive unit. I'm running two Edelbrock 750's that are blower calibrated, and Blue Thunder heads & manifold I got from Don, it's been an awesome combo. If your serious about going blown alcohol then id run a 14/71 . The harder you spin the smaller blowers the faster your going to wear it out . I have a buddy I can put you in touch with that has a fresh psi 14-71 blower for sale. He kept it for a backup blower for his boat . He ran an index class 7.00 . He sold the boat 2 years ago

I spent a lot of time on the phone this week talking to BDS,
AlkyDigger & Good Vibrations. So I've learned a lot. I still
need to talk with some more folks. I'm always amazed how
opinions can differ so much? So I'm still trying to digest all
the info. Everyone agrees tho that I need a larger blower
then a 871 for the 645. Right now there isnt physical
space behind the intake. So I need to see whats gonna
be involved cutting a chunk into the Lexan window and
dash? I hadnt planned on major surgery.... Crying or Very sad Can
someone give me a height dimension on their particular
blower & intake? Like from the back of the block intake
surface?? And what brand intake?

I would listen to Greg, it's all about the right matching components, I think Greg's combo (pretty mild) made over a 1000hp on the dyno (overdriven on race gas)
