It sounds like you have a good start on your project. Lem Evans, one of the forum members will be able to hook you up with the parts that you need. He has blocks and such... available quickly. I am sure he will chime in.... Wink
I would reccomend the PowerPort 360 for the build. You can order them with the Trick Flow CNC job for a little extra power. On this mill, bigger will be better. Go with the bigger port....Lem and Charlie (Evans) have some good porting and valve train experience with the 605 type engine.
I run this type of setup with the same heads, ported even larger. You will be happy with either bore size, 598 or 605. Just make sure you have adequate bearing clearance with the Eagle crank and rods. They tend to be on the tight side of the spec as delivered.
I am sure others will have a few suggestions too, so I will leave it open for more help.
Look at the proven builds section. There are some proven 605 builds documented there. If it starts and runs, and is mechanically sound, it will make 1000 HP.

Oh...One more thing.
This engine combination will help you find any weak points in your drivetrain or chassis. I referred to my 605 as "Shredder" for a while as it was consuming converter sprags and a couple of ring and pinions as it would rattle the tires. affraid I straightened out the chassis setup, and all of that nonsense stopped. It will force you to buy top notch parts for the rest of the car. It will have lots of torque.

At that compression ratio, I wouldn't think you would need the 18 bolt head; the 10 bolt version of the A460 cylinder head would be fine. Just be sure to get the larger 2.350" intake valve option.

yes it going to be a long way before I really get it to the way it should be, I also have bought a AJE K-member and I have a summit radiator with two cooling fans sometime back when the car was a 306 superchager,
next will be the 6 speed Transmission amd the rear end. I should be putting up pictures of my car its a 1990 gt mustang.

Good point Randy
The 18 bolt option would just add cost...

Post  CHARLIEB July 21st 2012, 11:27 pm

The reason for the 18 bolt is because I am going to use the Ford Racing block to stoke it out to a 604 or 598 and dont want to use block fill with a fe block safety reasons. These heads dont come in a 10 bolt only in 18 bolt pattern.
so you saying that the 2.350 Valve is better then the 2.400 Valve for this build? I also seen that Total Engine Airflow had better flow numbers then the regular Trick Flow out of the box for about the same price.

I'd get a bigger primary tube on the header.

and since you haven't bought the block or rotating assembly yet I'd shop it around with some of the vendors here to see what they could do for you.

I'm not sure you going to get a 6 speed to live behind a 605 if you get any traction...... May want to look into an automatic.

I will look to see about a automatic transmission because I believe you are right about holding up to all that power.
I will try to find a 4 speed automatic transmission.
I really want to say thank for all the input I have receive since I have posted about my build

on a budget Id suggest using a smaller cam, C6 with a tighter convertor and some mild gearing like 3.08 or 3.23.

It could be very drivable and fast as hell.

My only suggestion would be to get an Eliminator block vs. the Motorsport piece, the Eliminator can be had starting at a 4.600 bore and go ~.130 from there where the Motorsport block may be on the ragged edge at 4.600+ I believe it is ~$300 more but money well spent IMHO. I am getting mine through Rich Wilhelm at Circle R when we go up to 598 cubes on the next build. He is also very good with the A460 heads, has mine flowing better than the 340's through smaller valves and smaller test bore.

Eliminator blocks are nice, but the availability is sketchy at best most of the time. Nothing wrong with the A block, and they are readily available. As far as being on the ragged edge at 4.625, that is more myth than reality. Mine is 4.625 and over 1k hp and there is no problem with it. I'd go with the 4.600 bore 598 and save some material for down the road. I'm also going to say that with that power level, streetability is going to be a "relative" term, and I hope you understand that this isn't going to be as fun to drive as you would think. Jon Kasse built a Mustang with a large ci Boss engine, and realized that it was a handful to drive on the street. It isn't so much the hp as it is the torque that these large engines make. A little too much throttle, and the tires break loose and you are in big trouble. A good cooling system is going to be paramount also with kind of power on the street aslo. It sounds like a nice build and should be fun. Cool

I may have stated that the wrong way, what I meant was the A460 block is getting a little thin at 4.600" and at ~$2200 plus the cost to get it to 4.600" to me a guy would be money ahead to get the Eliminator which starts at 4.600" and have alot of room to bore if needed.

It's more a matter of taste I guess to me if I am gonna spend the money on the aftermarket block I want the room to grow if needed. I am not knocking the A460 block it's a great block! Just me personally if I was gonna go with the A block I would start around 4.500" and have the .130" to grow.

No you are absolute correct about the way to go on the block, what it is going to cost for boring it out to 4.625 it will be close to the same price. I had look at the premiere block but on some site I heard about lifter bore problems and something about the bottom end. I will have to go back and research this block again. Thanks for the Info.
