Can you run a filled block on gas

Can a filled block be run on gas for drag strip only use? In other words IF you had a block that was filled and you decided to go from Alcohol to gasoline can you safely?

Yes you can. Where is it filled to? It will be harder to keep cool for obvious reasons, however with the proper accommodations it is more than feasible.

I am not sure how much the block has been filled. It's running mechanically injected Alcohol currently, so no need for much cooling..

Why would you want to switch. Gas is more money these days..

I dont know very much when it comes to alcohol. And with the super tall tunnel ram it makes seeing difficult.
I dont know that I will/would change it, but information is always golden!

put a single 4 on it and a toilet or terminator, hell if i was gonna bracket race a good alky carb is simple and hard to beat.....................not that gas sucks but yes the fuel costs a bunch more unless you run the 110 stuff..

I plan to continue to run it with the Enderle injection setup, its nice to know I have options.

Revisiting this as this giant Condor Catcher is just super difficult to see around/over.. And the maintenance of Alcohol is more than I have time to enjoy.

Thinking of selling off all the enderle gear etc and putting a Victor intake and 1050 or 1150 Dominator on it and going to gasoline. Anyone recommend or have experience with the change? What size fuel pump? Is a return fuel line setup better? Any information is greatly appreciated...

I have a 70 hemi challenger and currently run a 68' cast iron street hemi block that has been filled to the bottom water pump holes. its an old 512 CI Blown Alch motor. when we tried to run it on gas the motor got way to hot and yes this is just at the track. I had to put the old '64 crossram intake on and run 2 660 center squiters converted to Alch by George Rupert in Fla. to get the motor cool enough to run. yes we run water thru the alum heads thru the top water pump ports on the block, but no water in the block. if you try going to gas don't get rid of your Alchy set up because you will be going right back to it when the motor gets too hot. Also down here where I run if your bracket car you have to run all the way back to the pits under your own power, no tow vehicals allowed. if your in the back of the staging lanes and you have to keep starting the car to get up to the line then let it run awhile while waiting on the next guy to do his burn out your in trouble. make sure you install an oil temp guage with a automatic warning light as your oil temp will run upwards of 280 and well, you know what that does to your bearings!!!! my advice is STAY WITH THE ALCHY SET UP OR IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE INJECTION SET UP CALL GEORGE RUPERT AND HE WILL FIX YOU UP WITH A GREAT CARB SET UP FOR ALCHY. My experience w/filled block was different. I went thru close to 300 NObox cars one weekend at FunFord weekend(Norwalk)to end up 3rd w/FILLED to bottom of water pump ports.If you have a good elec.pump and good rad. you should be good. I drove to staging ,and back to pits after 1/4 mi. I would fill one again esp.if the bore is .080 or more on a stock block. jmo  

I guess my set up is a lot different but we run our blocks dry and only flow water through the heads. oil stays around 175-180 and we keep the water temp around 45 degrees. of course that's not a bracket motor. lol
