Two of the four were on neck and two were on 4-5 and 5-1. First was 1982 and last was 1989. I had old school doctor who believed that nothing was disabling. He removed ruptured part of disc and the shattered parts of 5-1. Then let scar tissue replace it. He had me on my feet walking all over the hospital less than 24 hrs after surgery. I went back to work 5 weeks later, no restrictions as truck/trailer mechanic for Ryder and stayed there untill retirement in Nov. 09. I hurt it in 95 pulling torque wrench to 300# on Cummins heads but they put me through PT sessions and right back to work again. This old doc didnt use fusion or plates and screws, had the bedside manner of a bulldog, but he was an excellent neurosurgeon and an ex drag racer. Being that we were both assholes, we got along great!

I had 2 severely ruptured dics in 2004.Had donor bone put in C6 C7 and a cage and screws installed.Never been able to sleep over 2 hours at a time until this Dr. put me on some medicine for spinal injuries to reduce swelling. It's helped unbelieveably!! But ,the lower back deal is working on me now, and this 7 hours a day on my feet ain't really helping either. No telling what side affects this medicine will bring?? This getting old shit sux!!

I talked to many many people including some of my relatives who said, "yeah, I've got a bad back, or back problems, but it never caused me to lose any work!" All I can say to them is well you are a lucky sob because you have never had back problems then. When you are down with a REAL back problem, your ass aint going nowhere but to the doctor.

In 99 I went to the hospital for injections to my back.
About 2 weeks later I was back in the hospital almost dead. Somehow I contracted Aseptic Meningitis and a nasty Staph infection.
1 month in the hospital and several months off work and among other things my back still hurts Sad
I guess the moral to my story is, needles in the back scare the crap out of me.

Hope everything is good and it works for you Dan!

That staph infection is some bad bad stuff. There are more than a few around this area that died directly from it of from complications brought on by it that they got while in the hospital.

I thank God all the time I've never had back problems. My Dad has had alot of problems, mostly when he was young off loading freight trucks, after driving to get there! He told me times he had to crawl to get in the car to come home. Hang in there guys!

Don't even want to say how back my back is ,but the warm -fuzzy feeling I get when I wake up from passing out from the pain is a nice relief!
