I started this over the past month or so.
The 260 was running, but I think the valves might have seized or lifters collapsed... So I yanked it to rebuild and do rust repair. 64 Fairlane restoration/ mods Img_2011

the 64 fairlanes are really hard to do compared with the early mustangs.a ton of trim and unique parts to them, plus most of them were run hard and dumped in the yard for 30 years.i have been working on mine for 4 years, and seems like i am only half way.LOL.are you doing a big block stroker?that front end is removed for repairs?

Yeah there is nothing available as far as the complex body panels for this car. Everything will be hand made.
These panels are not easy to make! Multiple curves and body lines are everywhere!
This car had some horrible work done to it... probably one of the franchise body shops.....
The car is surprisingly in ok shape for how long it's been sitting outside.

Anyway, it will get subframe connectors and metal repair. I will be putting on a tubular k member and a healthy small block.....big blocks are cool I just don't think it's in the cards right now.

The front end is removed for frame rail rust repair and radiator support replacement.

what type of k-member are you going to use?is that with struts?my car only had some trunk floor rust and front floor/toeboard rust to repair.there is a seller on ebay that sells a rear lower quarter patch if you need that.i also bought a trunk floor and battery side front apron form them, and they are decent quality.
glad i didnt have repair frame rails.i also built my own thru the floor frame connectors as well and tied them to the front of the leaf spring sping mount.
you really dont need to do that unless you are going to run big hp and caltracs.i also mini tubbed it and can get a full 12 section width tire in it.

Nice connectors! What size/wall thickness tubing? I like the outriggers!
I think I will get the aje k member with struts. As far as I know, the aje setup is based on fox body stuff.
I know that front suspension design works very well. It also doesn't put too much rotational stress on the front frame rails like the mustang 2 front end does.

Post  hbstang on March 12th 2020, 9:13 pm

the tubing is 2x2 x .120 wall.it runs all the way to the front of the front torque box.there is 6 2x2 x .120 connectors to the rockers,on each side,2 in the rear,2 on top of the rear floor at the roll cage main hoop, and 2 at the front,1 under the front down a pillar bar.over kill i am sure, but ford had this idea that the rockers were the frame rails!the front torque boxes 64 Fairlane restoration/ mods Img_8011

attach to them,so i thought it would help stiffen the car up.

I don't think it's over kill. Especially if it is street driven and doesn't have anything more than an 8.50 cage.
I was thinking of doing something very similar. I may use round tubing though. I have to lay it out first.
I did some more work this week on the patches. I'll post up pics ASAP.

Thank you. These took some effort and we're made using hammer forms.
Here are most recent pics. A little more fine tuning then I will weld and dress them off.

Finished the right side. A thin skim coat should take care of any low spots.
On to the front then floor repairs.64 Fairlane restoration/ mods Img_2021

Thank you I spoke to aje suspension. I like their setup. Its McPherson style strut with rack and pinion
Their kit has a kmember, drop spindles, control arms motor mounts stuuts and strut bearings

Thanks!

Funny you ask about the cage. I have some 4130n but now I may not have the time..I'm trying to get this car blasted and in prime within the next two weeks....I may do the cage after it's primed

So an update. Regular work is slowing down. I figured I can't fit anything more than an 8 inch tire in the tubs so I will back half the car... Cross member built and floor cut out. Cross member Tues into frame connectors
