For those of you that have installed AFR heads. Do you have any tips for installing the $##@ing guide plates? The instructions say to first tighten to 25ft lbs, then tighten the bolt that holds the 2 halves together, then tighten the studs to 55-60 ft lbs. When I do that the halves want to move..

I don’t recall having a big issue installing mine but that was a few beers 🍻 ago.

Yea, that's the problem. I get the plate where I need it, then it moves as I torque the stud to the final spec of 55ft lb.

Family commitments have kept me out of the shop since Sunday, but I'll play with it more hopefully tonight.

Using oil on the rocker stud threads and under the hex after hitting the lower threads on a wire wheel...

Sometimes the intake stud hole breaks into the intake port on the 315's. In this case use sealer instead of oil.

Tighten exhaust rocker studs to 25 to 30# using your eyes to line up the stem tip, rocker stud and push rod tip and guide. Then do the same with the intake plate.

Use a small hammer and punch to get each half located so rocker rocker tip is exactly centered on valve stem using rocker to double check.. Pushrod is typically centered in PR hole at this point.

Tighten the bolt / nut that secures them together.

Torque to #55 to #58

I've never had one move once the bolt holding the halves together is snugged properly.
