First attempt at this so please bear with me.
I have a 1968 Thunderbird with the 429, 50,000 original miles. 100% stock. I want to wake this thing up just for fun. I will never take it to the strip, just want to have good fun on the weekend. No particular hp target and don't want to go deeper than the cam and want to keep it to pump fuel. I know cubic inch equals power, but not many run a 429 anymore. So for the sake of being 'different', I want to stay at 429 and restoring a 68 t-bird... Not many of those anymore either.
Anyway, looking for thoughts on my plan.

Edelbrock Performer heads 75cc
Edelbrock Performer intake
3.50:1 rear
Probably headers if they fit in car
C6 tranny with factory stall listed at 1980-2180
Car weighs in around 4500-4600 pounds
NO IDEA ON CAM
Ford listed this engine as a 360hp 11:1 compression engine. Assuming Cr will remain the same. Hoping the Aluminum heads will help with detonation, which actually isn't bad once I adjusted timing.

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated. I'm a western Canadian farmer so pulling wrenches is the easy part for me. Figuring out which pieces work best together is not my thing. I'm learning as I go and trying to do a lot of reading from guys on these forums that know what they're doing. Thanks in advance for your input. If anything I've posted makes no sense, don't be scared to tell me. I'm a big boy, I can handle it

not an engine builder just a used car lot moron mechanic. anyway you might want to use the 95cc heads instead of the 75cc. zbob

Was looking at that. How much would that lower the cr?

Edelbrocks sgould be a good touch. Will lower comoressions slightly(c8,c9,d0 are supposed to be 72. Those are 75(measured mine at 77-78) should be 10 or so to 1. I found just a performer rpm intake and a cam woke up my 69 4 door thunderbird. Msd kept the idle stromg and let me idle way too low say 400-500 rpm for an awesome lope(give me a break i was 16 and in high school)

If its like mine is 28 spline 2.73 open rear diff. May want to lock in a lsd and maybe some 3.50 gears. Can fit a 295/50/15 on a 15x10 with some air shocks(rear springs were shot and had trouble finding replacements) now i know galaxie parts amd looks like most mid and full size ford suspension may work. Im tempted to look into torino qmd see what fits suspension.

The 75cc Edelbrock heads and a Ford Marine camshaft work very well together using a 429 and it is very simple to do.

rmcomprandy: I like simple!!

Litshoot: I have a 9 3/8" 31spline 2.8 open rear. I have been told a 9" 31 spline pumpkin will bolt right in. That will give a good selection of gears.

Yes it will. Check the Upull it yards for an F150 with a Trac Loc the tag will read 3L50

For a Cam, my first choice would be the HYDRAULIC FLAT TAPPET FORD 429-460 HOWARDS CAM 249141-14
They produce good vacuum and work with street exhaust because of their wide lobe separation but are big enough
to make good power and will mate with an rpm performer intake perfectly. With a minimum 750 carb, that old 429
will rip.
