When Did Ford Change the Cam Bearing Design On the 429/460 Engines?
When Did Ford Change the Cam Bearing Design On the 429/460 Engines?
Today I was stripping down a block to hot tank for a customer. It is an original 1969 block that has never been rebuilt. When I was knocking out the old cam bearings I happened to notice that they are grooved. What's interesting is that they are not grooved all the way around and they are NOT grooved in between the oil holes. The oil that feeds the distributor hole on the front bearing has to go the long way around to get to the hole.
I can't remember seeing this in a later engine but it is sort of neat in that it keeps more cam bearing surface in between the holes.
