suggestion for a 5.50-5.90 all motor car , 2500-2700 lb car, 29.5x10.5 tire, ladder bar and strut front end, not a low budget deal but don't want to sell my body parts to build it, I've always done SBF , need ideas for a BBF

if suspension and track conditions permit , i would think 750-850 would get you there. my last deal with a tight nos converter which made around 850 ran 5.8's n/a (edelbrock heads)   i was around the 3000-3100 if i remember . With that being said im sure any cj, p-51, afr build will get you there.  has the chassis been down the track before ? what does it 60' ? Im sure one of our "engine masters" will chime in .... Very Happy

What's it going in? Chassis car or stock suspension?

You starting from scratch or have anything your trying to reuse?

What sort of budget do you have to work with?

You should be able to throw something together with out of the box parts and a custom cam.

My 514 in my Mustang weighs 2975 with me in it and ran a 6.35 at the Bash.  Converter is super tight.  Only flashed to 3500 on the launch and the car has a 4.30 gear in it with a 32x14 tire. Not ideal for the 1/8, probably not for the 1/4 either...

Engine is a flat top 514 (.080 over/4.14 crank), box stock P-51s, Mafia intake and a 1050.  Trans is a 1.80 glide.  Car is a backhalved 87 Mustang with a 4 link and front suspension setup from PA Racing.

You'll hit your goal easy with hardly any effort...

I'd do 1 598" A460 headed engine, A460 Block with out of the box TFS heads, Intake, timing chain and wet sump with a Kaase Pump.

Can do a 900-1000+ hp very easy, with most everything out of the box and nothing crazy expensive or exotic.

That’s little out of price range, i was thinking a 545-557 stock block deal with Cast iron CJ heads, cam, etc..or maybe some aluminum cj heads,

A 545 with a set of the TFS PowerPort 325 heads would get you there.

Think about it a little more, to get the 598 its only going to be the difference in the cost of a block and about $1000 on the heads. In other words you get a whole lot more motor for about $3000 more.

my 552 has been 6.07 in the 1/8 at 2940# in my ranger with 29.5x13.5 MT slicks 4.30 gear. I think it will be in the high 5s now I have went from the 4.30 gear to a 4.86 gear might have hit the 5s with the 4.30 gear if I wouldn't had some oil pan problems and made another pass that night

My engine is a D9 block .060 over 4.5 stroke 6.7 rod with a old set of A429 head with a victor intake with Ron's Toilet

I really like the BIG BORE 552 engine with 14/1 compression and "out of the box" A460 head package; A 4.600" bore x 4.150" stroke. That'll certainly meet the target.

You don't need all that extra piston speed, to go merely 5.50 easily in the eighth at 2,700 pounds.

The other side of the goal raises the bar a little at 5.50, gonna need in the 850-900 to reliably and consistently get their given the fact that most combos and cars aren't that well set-up, yes a well set up and sorted out deal can go faster with less.

Nice Falcon,500+ and 2700 pounds should be fairly easy without breaking the bank.I have a 512 in a 2850# Fairmont that has been a best 5.65 in good air on motor.Believe me it is a low budget deal but the combo works.

Yes, 500 plus cubes should get you easy 5.70-80. We have 2750lb tube chassis 93 mustang with 514 with pro comp heads, ran best of 5.70's and that's with pro comp heads. Should be easily doable with the weight you are at.

The 2700 lb is just a estimate, the car with a 302-c4 and stock suspension, 4 wheel drum brakes, leaf springs no cage, steel rims and factory front end was 2700 Lbs with me in it, still 100% factory steel panels and glass and then i was 360 lbs, now ill be 200 lbs ( gastric bypass) car has ladder bars and coil springs, mild cage, strange strut front end and brake setup with billiet spectilies rims, the car is lite, i know BBF is heavier, it’s possible to be even less then 2700 lbs, the chassic shop weighted the weight difference on just the front end alone was 200 lbs lighter then factory stuff
