New Ford Block in the works?
I understand from sources at the Ford Bash this past weekend that a new BBF racing block is about to be brought to market. Some of the features mentioned:
Aluminum block available in 10.3”, 9.8” and 9.5” deck heights
Enclosed cam tunnel with oil scavenge capability for dry sump applications (only requires changing two pipe plug fittings to convert from wet to dry sump!)
Capable of 70mm roller/78mm slider cam bearings. For cam bearings greater than 60mm, will require belt drive arrangement
Firmanized stainless steel thread inserts for caps and head bolts
Serious re-enforcement via added ribbing and increased wall thickness
Boss cylinder head oil drainbacks to oil pan (rear only)
Bellhousing capable for either BBF / SBF / Powerglide. Choose only 1 bolt hole pattern.
Standard 3” billet main caps. Optional 2.75” billet main caps.
O-ring aluminum pipe plugs
Dry sump pump block mounting
Reverse starter location capable (with SBF or Powerglide bellhousing pattern)
Any truth to this?

Who specifically mentioned this? Didn't hear anything about it this past weekend. I know there is one new aluminum block out there still in the R&D phase, maybe one or two have been machined for testing.

Or if they can get a foundry to produce raw castings. Tim Meyer is having that issue with his improved 351C blocks. The foundry keeps delaying the casting date.

No but, I did hear that one of the Ford dealers in Livermore, KY has developed a cam/oil pan package that is worth 78 HP @ 7,300 RPM.

I suggest drill & tap all 3 trans options on the rear of every block.enginetech wrote:I understand...that a new BBF racing block is about to be brought to market. Some of the features mentioned:

The AR aluminum block that I had back in the '80s also had a Chrysler bell pattern. It came in real handy after I had 1/2" milled off the deck and the top C6 bolt was gone.
Re: New Ford Block in the works?
While there are combinations of bellhousing patterns that will work, I believe these would have intersecting holes. Works well on a bellhousing, not so good on the block.

My question for everyone here is what of the features offered would be of the most interest? Least?

Re: New Ford Block in the works?
Deck height (tall), bore spacing (std), stroker clearance, interchangeability of parts, priority oiling, cam size increase clearance, lifter boring ability,BE strength including walls, factory mount holes, delivered specified machined options(shipped to 3rd party OK), factory bolt pattern for a C-6 /TL 4SPD(Merkl c6
) the GM trans stuff already has the bells to work as does the 4SPD stuff.

Cast the bosses, Drill requested pattern? Or cast it flat and any pattern a person desires can be had?

Provision for using the 18 bolt heads out there!! And already clearanced for all popular stroker kits, as well as clearanced in the lifter valley for pushrods when using Boss type Hemi heads.enginetech wrote:My question for everyone here is what of the features offered would be of the most interest? This may be a dumb question, but, with a shorter deck height, is the head to intake dimensions changed? Can a standard intake go on a 9.8 or 9.5" deck? If so, what has to be done to make it work? Or am I simply over thinking this..

Yes the intake changes.... but typically the applications wanting those heights are using sheet metal intakes not on the shelf cast stuff
