Anybody done this in a street/strip car? Plenty of real estate for the trans to fit with a square tube chassis. Is this a viable option for 572 cubes (NA and eventually boosted) and 3500+ pounds?

It's a big heavy SOB that needs a computer of some sort (stock EEC-IV ECM, diesel pickup trans controller or a $$$ stand alone controller) to make it work properly.  Converters are pretty dang expensive too.

This guy built his own stand alone controller with the intent of offering it as a kit, but his interest has since waned.

If I wanted overdrive, I'd do a C6 + Gear Vendor or a glide + GV.

Baumann makes a stand alone controller for the e4od.... I would say check out nloc.net for some ideas... Lots of 1st Gen lightnings making lots of power with that tranny behind them... I got a 2500 stall converter with lockup and an anti balloon plate for about $580 from monster transmission..... Not a bad price I thought.... And a punisher valve body

I've contemplated building one of those for my '79 pickup for a long time and a friend of mine has the right core with the cable speedometer provision. I think that the E40D would be much better than a C6 with a Gear Vendors OD simply because it also has a lock up converter. My truck has 4.10 gears and it would benefit greatly from an overdrive.

This article about doing just that is what started to make me wonder how it would work in a big ol' tubbed out '66 Galaxie:

We retrofit an EFI7.5L/E4OD into our 73 truck. It was a PITA to get it to work properly mainly because we had to come up with a way to get a speed signal to it. Ours does not have a speedo drive in it, so we had to pull our speed signal from a front wheel ABS sensor. (Crown Vic front suspension)

Trans works good and shifts great after we put a Punisher valve body in it. But, it is huge and heavy and will likely require floor pan surgery. Ok for a truck, but I don't think I would put one in a street/strip car unless it was a big car.

It's a big'un. '66 Galaxie with a full tube chassis and currently no floor from the firewall to the back bumper. Otherwise, I wouldn't even consider it.

Didn't Greg Pettit have one in his yellow 70 Torino over on the other site? I remember Jon Faubion (Fabio) building it possibly. It's behind a 545 and runs in the 10's and holds up well...
