Yes. Regardless of what kind of oil pump, the distributor gear must be a Bronze (or Nylon) gear. You cannot have two hard gear together, one must be a softer material.

A bronze or composite distributor gear can be used on all ... some grade steel cams can use a steel gear; (not iron).

different type of gear mesh... hypoid gears versus spiral gears.. big difference

Might consider the Lunati gear also (probably made by Crane).
