I installed the spool in the spare 9" housing. The truck currently has 4.33's, a bit steep for highway speeds with a 3 speed automatic. This case has 2.75's which may be a little far the other way, but my hope is that it will perform sorta like a power glide with an overdrive. I don't think torque is going to be a problem so I figure it will be fine.

Diff is swapped, driveshaft is in, just have a list of about 5 little things I need to do before I set it on the ground and take it for a test drive in the parking lot.

Oh and Rocky Mountain Race Week was a blast. Car ran great for the most part, trans (T5) lost 3rd at the track in Pueblo so we were forced to drive it 1,2,4,5 for the next couple of days. It sounded awful, but didn't completely fail. Haha.

Hey looky, it works. I drove around the lot for a few laps datalogging then decided to do a little burnout. It was almost out of fuel so didn't drive it a long time but I did get some good data. Converter *might* be ok, it is a little loose but not obnoxiously so.

I "finished" the minitub today using a bunch of old license plates. Thought they kind of fit the vibe of the truck.

I finally got insurance on this thing so I can start driving it and tuning it.  I had been dragging my feet because we were focused on the 83GT and then doing an engine build and swap for my sons's 1998 Durango.  It turned out real nice. Hughes intake, KB pistons, Eagle rods, Comp XR268HR, Magnum RT heads with 2.02 valves.  He did all the work and is pretty darn proud of it.  cheers

Finally got other projects taken care of so I can start tuning on it more. It had a big stumble when the throttle was yanked open. I think I have it tuned out now.

I tried using Autotune in TunerStudio yesterday but the truck was almost out of fuel so I think that was screwing it up.

To this day Ive never had good luck with the Tunerstudio autotune. On my Procharged Mustang the autotune always wanted to lean out the fuel mixture, its completely possible that I didnt have the configuration setup exactly right but logging and altering the tune seemed to work better. The autotune really screwed me up when I tried to use it for cold start tuning.

It definitely wants to pull out too much fuel, which I can crutch by altering the target AFR table, but I probably won't mess with it any more. I'd rather do it myself and learn what the truck wants.

I really prefer to use MSDriod to tune and log. It runs on my phone so it is much more convenient to use and logs GPS speed and location.

Converter swap.

I originally put the PG Raceshop PGX-D (3800-4100 stall) that was in the Mustang in the truck. I feared it would be too loose and I was correct. It flashes up to 3500 just mildly accelerating and shoots to 4700 if you hammer the throttle. No good. I picked up a Hays 97-2G24F converter, 2400-2800 stall, with anti-balloon plates to replace it. This should tighten it up where it is not just slipping all the time and making heat.

Holy crap this thing is fun now. The converter feels great and makes the truck so much more responsive.

Traction is now a serious problem. Those 275/55-18's don't stand a chance.

I have been chasing a lean problem under boost. Nothing I did with the tune would correct it. I couldn't determine if it was a setting I had wrong or a mechanical problem with the fuel system.

I routed the fuel pressure gauge up to the windshield wiper so I could watch fuel pressure. Sure enough, it was dropping like a rock under boost. I had just filled up the fuel cell, so it was not low on fuel. I decided to check the fuel filter and there is where I found the problem. The filter was completely clogged with fuel cell foam fuzz. I pulled the foam out of this cell right after I go it and this must have been the residual fuzz. Anyway, that fixed the problem. I uploaded an older tune and took it for a drive an it works exactly as expected now. Whoo hoo! Wastegate is set to at 5 psi right now and it is a blast.

Do you have a wideband gauge installed?

Absolutely.  It is on the steering column and AFR is also displayed on the MSDroid app.

I built a hitch for it so I can pull the DW trailer if I want. I had one, but it looked completely stupid with no rear bumper.

I took it to my house so it would be more convenient to drive and tune. It died in traffic at 5pm and would not crank. My buddy was not far away and we towed it to my house. I moved the battery ground cable to a non-painted spot on the engine and that helped the hot crank GREATLY.

I washed all the shop dust off it and drove it around the neighborhood. I messed with the idle fueling and accel enrichment and made some good progress. It was trying to idle too lean when warm. It is much better now. WOT is still a little rich, but I am creeping up on it. Hit the gas from a slow roll, shifted to 2nd and did a 320+ foot rolling burnout. Could have easily gone longer, but that was good enough to log an extended WOT session. haha. This thing is fun on 5 psi, can't wait to turn it up to 10 or 12.

Longer drives in 90°+ degree temps show that it stays cool for a while, then starts to get warm. I tried water wetter, but that only delayed it a little longer. I had hoped that this old radiator would be ok, but it is really clogged up and is seeping in several places.

I decided to put an aluminum one in, but it seems like there are no super cooling radiators available anywhere. Every place I looked said "out of stock". I ended up buying a standard size 4 row (19" x 26" core). The core is the same size as the 31x19 that I have used in the 83GT for years.

The new one arrived today and it looks nice. The HHR fan fits it pretty good too.

Catching this thread up.

Way back when we put the efi 460 in this truck, we just put it in, wired it up, and went on our way. Truck ran so we figured it was all fine. As I was reading about TFI modules for the 83GT, I discovered there are two kinds. A black one and a gray one. They use the same mount, and connector, but they are not interchangeable. If you use a black one where a gray one is supposed to be, the ECU will not be able to advance the timing. So you are stuck with whatever your base timing is set at. Like 12° BTDC.

Back then, we checked it with the SPOUT connector out (Like you are supposed to) and set the base timing to 12°. I never checked it with the SPOUT in because I just figured the computer was taking care of it. So all that time we were running around with 12 degrees of advance instead of something like 34. It ran ok, but never seemed to make the power I thought it should. I guess i now know why.

The F250 to F100 turbo project - it's alive. - Page 5 Image_99

I started thinking about fuel pump placement and fuel delivery problems today. I decided my fuel pump was too high (inlet about halfway up the height of the fuel cell) so I made some brackets and lowered it to where the inlet is at the same height as the sump. I don't know if this will cure the problem, but it dang sure can't hurt.

While I was under there I noticed the pass wheel cylinder has started leaking. Must be jealous of the new one's I just put in the Galaxie. Haha.

The F250 to F100 turbo project - it's alive. - Page 5 Image100

I had trouble with a dead cylinder. Turned out to be a bad spark plug. It would fire intermittently. Changed plug, problem fixed. I changed the wastegate spring to the next stiffer one.

This is 7 psi, 4600 rpm. I love how this thing sounds.

My oldest son Jake bought a set of SVE wheels for his 98 Cobra. The M&H tires that are on the wheels are really too big for his car. 4.5/28-17 fronts and 12.5/28-15's in the rear. So naturally, we had to see how they fit on the truck. Haha.

The rear swallows the 15x10 wheel and 28" tire! The 28" tire on the front is a bit tall and will get into the fender lip if you turn too far. If the front wheels had about 1" more back space they would probably be fine.

Well this project is done. A buddy wanted it real bad as a roller, so I pulled the drive train last night and he is going to pick it up Friday. He's been looking for a truck for quite a while and has hit me up about it several times. I just don't have the time, desire or space to work on 4 project cars anymore. So he's happy, I'm happy and I can focus on other stuff.

I am going to keep this engine and trans and maybe swap it back into the 83GT if the turbo 302 ever gives it up. Very Happy
