learnt a long time ago that if you want something done right ,learn how to do it your self (actually was told by a machine shop that if I didn't like the way they did my stuff maybe I should do it myself!!) , take your time , measure ,remeasure , recheck you math , rezero on the gauge blocks , then remeasure !!! any doubt remeasure !! on the boring bar there are to many chances to make a mistake so set a routine and don't wavier from it or you'll make a mistake !! I can bore with that ol' girl and hit my target diameter within .00025" yes a 1/4 thou , final pass has 2 air nozzles @ 60 psi blowing down the bore to keep the cutting tool cool and the bore cool

You should use one or two of those air nozzles that basically separates the hot air from the cool air. Called a Cold Air gun. I use them for surface grinding. They aren't very expensive either.

Think i would get some Certanium 889 sp rods and reconnect the cylinders to the block on bottom. They are totally awwesome rods and dont warp anything and wels anything together just about. Better then furnace brazing.

I need to be able to change the sleeves out without pushing the bores around them out of round . this is the reason for this work , sometimes when you have your toes hung over the edge you miss the tune by 1/2 degree of timing and have to change a piston or 2 , this makes it relatively easy to change a piston and sleeve in a couple of hours rather than have to remachine the whole block because of an oops!

when you have a piston the vanishes off the end of a connecting rod @ 9000 rpm this is what you find ! rod was still intact with the pin in it ! .180 wall Tool Steel pins are Strong!!

Very nice work Frank!!

I learned a long time ago about doing it yourself as well!!

Its always nice to save a block and make it better. If you put this much into the bores, I'm sure there is a trick or two in other areas of the block lol!!

I'm definitely taking notes. I just got an A460 block and rotating assembly from Lem. I already had the SCJ heads and Mafia intake, so I'm getting close to making some noise. Twisted Evil

Today was pre assembly day , as were putting a . 100" shorter rod in the motor 6.700 vs 6.600 . with pistons withe .100 " thou less valve relief trying to get the ring package away from the top ring land which is the first burn through on a nitrous motor . well the pistons are 25 grams heavier and the shorter rods weigh 6 grams heavier ! 4.5 hrs latter were within 1/2 gram of are 2200 gram bobweight which is a 51% over balance . all 8 pistons clear the counter weights Now , small ends of rods clear the counter weight at the pin end Now ! Assemble the motor with out rings . degree the New Montie Smith NOS cam , install heads with checker springs on 2 holes, Check piston to valve clearance , port match heads to intake , take it all back apart , file fit the rings . assemble the heads for final assembly . then clean, clean and re clean everything !! that's what I did in 19 hours on my sunday!!! Time for a Rum !!! Tomorrow final assembly !! Hell I forgot eat today !!! Calories In Rum? LOL

Just another day in the life of Frank. Very Happy

Looking awesome, and I have to agree now that if anything needs to be done the way you want it, it's best to do it yourself.

How deep are the cylinders when finished Frank? 6.25" long?

Does the piston pin come out below the bottom of the cylinder with the 6.7" rods?

Cheers

the finished sleeves in the block are 6.35 " long now as the bottom register on the one side sits over the main so I made the sleeves longer than the original cylinder wall

That's the win/win deal about a big shot of NOS engine.....if a guy makes the piston to head wider the intake valve relief can get a lot shallower. Cool
