what is the shortest distributor out there

I need a short dist for 460 with a tunnel ram stock dist I have is 7 1/4 from block to top of regular socket type cap , would like MSD distrib. but not really crank trigger ?

What tunnel ram?   Mine clears no problem, had to relieve the mounting flange on the intake a little, but the top fits fine.

Did not notice that was the 8577 you were asking about in the other thread. Anyway I did not see any shorter ones.

It's a C head with a sheet metal intake ,I have a short factory style in it now

How much room in the way of height do you have to spare now. if any?

Run a front mount belt drive.

The MSD is about 1 1/2" taller and 5/8" smaller in diameter than what you have. I am about out of ideas, short of custom cutting one down or a offset gear drive type.

Is thier an issue with the factory distributor?

Not until something goes wrong with it ,I don't know exactly what it is from to get a spare

Any 460 dura spark for the late 70s to the late 80's before EFI at the auto parts store.... Add a bronze gear and a few mods and your good to go, it's nothing special.

I have 3 dust 2 won't work ,too tall ,the one in it is much shorter ,don't know what the heck it's out of

That crab cap might be an option , I think that might work even with the taller stock dist.

Not to be smart assed ,but they all look alike , I just cant seem to find out what this short one came from.

I had the same clearance issues with my blower. After trying I few different ones and calling all over gods earth, the Mallory unit with a crab cap was it before going offset drive or crank trigger.

Definitely a neat looking system ,but I need multiple rev limiters .The dist that's in there isn't cut or modified length wise ,but I think it may be the dist that I ran with an A460 tunnel ram setup .

so what everyone is saying is stock 429/460, 351w with gear change, a few of the aftermarket ones have different lengths such as the one I provided, or the modified it. All of this is speculation without seeing a pic....at the end of the day someone with milling and machine capabilities can make just about anything. I called around for a few weeks to the different manufacturers to get the height from the intake flange of the distributor to the top of the cap measurements. Two years ago the Mallory unit was the shortest out of the box deal.
