This is almost identical build to my engine except my heads, intake have been ported, solid roller camshaft and 4500 carb.

Not sure where the limit is, but Lem had a pretty big solid flat tappet made for the combo i'm starting soon for a friend and said we should see 800 , these guys know these motors for sure , Scott Johnson , Roger at Kaase , Carl Hansen, Dave Freelander all said the same thing , the combo is a 14to1 552 with P51 heads and a mafia intake with a 1250 quick fuel carb , my friend knows he's leaving some good hp on the table not going the solid roller route , but he wants to try this first then maybe next season step up to a roller with some head and intake work.

The P-51's are a good head candidate for a flat tappet cam too............. Your deal with the right cam will best 800 a good bit.

Hello Nuclear,

Is the flat tappet made for this combo using a .904" lifter? or larger?
Would be very interesting to see the limit of a solid ft cam - with larger lifter diameters.

How ported are the heads? Care to share any flow numbers? Also what ball park duration does the cam have?
Thanks,
Jon

Just normal size Comp edm lifters, and the heads and intake are box stock.

This the deal for the 521" that I posted.......

The intake side of the heads are 375ish cfm. There was no intent or attempt to make a 400 cfm port. Things were size to fit the application.

Simple bowl porting and a back-cut angle on the intake valves will get near that air flow amount with those heads so, I am sure this was nothing drastic.

AND, peak air flow is just not the place where those SCJ heads show themselves ... .300" to .550" valve lift is where they really shine.

Not looking for an exact figure or a "Quote" but ball park how much would this build cost minus labor for engine assembly.

Looking at ideas for a future "Street" project.

Yassir, I have a few blocks, need to do something with them i.e. Fill the insides with rotating metal LOL! Lem this isn't something I'll get started on right away, most likely be this winter or maybe next spring before I get started. I have a few other projects going on right now that take priority.

cheers I would like to mail you a money order for the blueprints of that build in the spring/summer for my 521 so after I get the block back from local bowtie/rat-nick machine shop I can assemble it correctly. Fire it, and have a beer or 3 (8-10) after breaking in the cam then go hunting at later dates. Great build, thanks for sharing I think I got the jist but the details are everything. Wink

Is it a bad internet service thing, or why is the pic in the OP missing? No picture of the pull.
