Unless it is a big block making 650 plus hp or a large cubic inch small block making 750 or more n/a the c4 will be just fine !IMO:)

Jon,i think he has a really light car with a 8 or 9" wide tire maybe that's why he was thinking glide?

Later Mark.

stick with the C4 if you go this route.

I you do a big windsor on the small tire the glide could be a better choice for bracket racing.

my sb car is pretty light and runs on a small tire, its a heads up car. but prints slips like a copy machine. You could gear it to not hit so hard down low also. Im all about powerglides but everything has its place. the money spent on the glide conversion would buy some parts for the C4 and make it more reliable than what he has..

they are a lot more than just building a pg and sticking it in when you start converting one to a pg. I am getting ready to convert my Ranger to a pg and they are a lot more that goes with it than just having a trans built and stick it in.

Stick with the c4 if it been working good for you just get it rebuilt with the good stuff in it and put it back in.

C4 can be made to handle a lot of power in that light of a Vehicle and be consistent.
Let me know if you want to sale the c4 ?

With the bigger motor or if you are planning on adding more power with this combo, I would choose a 3.50 rear gear ratio and a stall that will make the car work harder in 2nd gear and 3rd gear. Even with a glide making more power on that size tire its going to have to have some good suspension.! My vote is for the c4 now and power glide later on with bigger engine
!

Yes I Do , I was talking about running the 3.50 gear if you was going to stroke the 302 or add NOS to it or put the 427w in N/A . sorry didn't mean to put you in the wrong direction:oops:

Any combo with an engine that has low torque and high hp will benefit from a three speed trans.

A good 302 with 450 hp will have around 100 less ft lb of torque. Keeping that little engine in the sweet spot of the power curve will make a faster race car. This helps even more if you cant get the weight down.

You get more mechanical leverage more of the time.

Take a 302 inch engine and make it peak at 9000 rpm and you have a baby prostock needing 5 gears to make it as fast as it could be.

Its all about available power and how you use it.

In this case the C/4 is the trans of choice, it has about the same parasitic loses as a good PG when built right, rollerize it, and a correct converter for the application, plus the optimum rear gear.

with 302 based motors I always ran a 4.56 to 4.88 gear with a 28" tire. With the spray maybe a 4.30.

with a bigger inch motor I would go with a 3.89-4.10 gear no matter spray or transmission.

Can't really ever see a need for a 3.50 gear in a race car with a small tire.

I would run a glide due to the fact you are going to a bigger motor in an extremely light car. A very cheap glide would get the job done too. If you have a decent c4 that you can't get rid of then I would stay with it since it's a bracket deal.

The reason I suggested the 3.50 gear is I have customer running a small tire 377 CID 3800 stall converter c4 3.50 gear n/a 2800 lbs car and it runs consistent 6.80 @ 100 mph. I also was thinking that he was going with a larger engine and not recomending it for the 302. The Obove time is for 1/8 mile .
