If you listen at the end of that video, you can hear the crowd cheering about the numbers he put up on the board. Later on, one of the girls that was there came over and wanted to take Randy's, and the car's picture, because as she said; "he was the fastest racer here". I chuckled.

His 1/8th mile e.t. was 5.23 on that run I believe, however he has run a couple of 5.15 e.t.s at Beech Bend. At the end of the day, that's not bad for a 562 CID engine with a set of OEM style heads,,,,meaning the P-51 heads.

Meanwhile, Randy's new nickname is "The Velcro Kid".

Hey Randy,
What did you do to tame that wheelstand? Move the I.C.
It looked impressive.
Cheers Colin.

Thanks Colin,
I tightened the extension on the shocks while I was there (when the pic was taken) it helped quite a bit, but I eventually moved the 4 link down a hole at the housing on the top bar later on .

I was not ready for a wheel stand like that the first pass so I was a bit concerned affraid .

A couple of weekends later at the bash the car layed down 3 1.09 60 times, several 1.10's and a 1.11.

After about 30 passes I am suspecting the sidewalls gave up on the tires and it started the spinning. I am too poor to be buying tires every 30 passes so I am just letting it spin until better weather rolls around Laughing .

I am going to switch to a d-5 from the d-6 compound and see how that works out.

So Randy,
It looks like you moved your I.C forward and higher to tame it down, is that correct?
You are making more power than me but I can see some similarities with my set-up.
Just trying to understand what you did because it seemed to work.
Do you know what distance out and height your I.C was, and what it is now after the change.
Cheers Colin.

Post  KY JELLY 21st August 2009, 11:04

The original ic setting was 49.3" @ 5.7" high , it is now at 60.9 @ 5" high.

I moved it down a hole in the rear to try and take away some of the instantaneous "hit" and apply more leverage as it moves out. In theory this is supposed to allow a little tire slippage and then hook it up as it moves out.

The top bar is pulling and the closer the top bar is to the housing the speed of the movement is slowed down due to a leverage disadvantage at the housing brackets. At the same time it puts the bar at a flatter angle to the chassis allowing for a slower more controlled and powerful application of the leverage to go along with increased engine hp/tq. You can't move one end of the bar without effecting the other so it all works together to some point.

I am not a chassis expert , but I have formed some opinions messing with mine and it may not agree with what some people say or believe.

I think the term ic is really meaningless on a 4 link , its just a reference point, its where your pivot point is on a ladder bar so it means more in that situation .

I know everything thing you read points at the imaginary intersect point (ic) , but the truth is that could be the exact same with 2 or more different 4 link settings if the brackets allowed it. How could that act the same way with different bar spreads ? The bars are pulling and pushing at the brackets not the imaginary intersect point.

I still measure and reference the ic , but just to keep tabs on what it does when I move the 4 link. The more I move it the less faith I have in the outward measurement of ic , I think the height is the most important and its a direct result of the top bar placement and the bottom bar angle. In most cases when you get the bottom bar right for the chassis in general you are not going to move it unless the power is really increased and then more than likely it would be done with a ride height change.

KY JELLY,
Do your homebuilt headers have a BBF flange on them or is it a BBC flange with adapters? Thanks
