Stock Block Power Empty Stock Block Power

Post  Twin 501 July 3rd 2012, 6:44 pm

I"m New to this sit. I think this is the best sit for me. I have A ford 460 stock block and it's 4 bolt main stroke to a 501 and I'm puting twin turbos 67mm. I have a eagle 4340 crank, oliver rods, 8.1 Ross pistons, cnc SCJ heads and I'm using a valley girdle pro system. and will hard block an sleev the engine for more support. But I need to know from some real good ford guys how much power will it handle. Boost number 15-25 psi RPM 6500-7000. Going in a 1994 mustang min tube ladder bar car. My goal in horse power is 1200-1350 at the crank. This is just for fun untill I can biuld my dream motor BBF 598.

At 501 inches I will assume your going .030 on the bore, I would say with a good tune (no detonation) you will probably keep it together at that HP level for a while.

I don't see any need for the valley girdle or sleeves in the block or hard block. With the cnc ported SCJ's and the right cam, that power can be made below 7000 rpm probably closer to 6000. Turbos tend to be easier on parts at the same power level than other power adders.

With that being said, I would still step up to an aftermarket block for this build. Cheap insurance........

X3 spend the money on the aftermarket block rather tHan on all the mods to the stock one, it will pay dividends when the "add some more boost" thought process kicks in......

X4 you can make it live at those hp levels, but it will never see its full potential, and it will always be in the back of your mind every time you turn it lose if this will be the time it gives up the ghost.
