Bear with me please... So my crank pilot on the torque converter is too big. I measured it and it was the bigger (1.848) size. When I checked the crankshaft itself the hole was 1.831". Okay weird because I've only heard of the sizes 1.848 and 1.375... So for shits and giggles I put the old converter in the lathe and turned it down to 1.830 (a thousands under what I measured the crank as). Guess what? It goes in the crank like a glove and fits good.

So my question is, what the heck how is the crank pilot 1.831"???? I've never heard of that size, has it been machined to that?

Thanks

Might be an Industrial / HD crank?

What exactly would that mean if it were? What is the difference between those and a regular crank? confused

My guess would be the pilot and maybe the snout would be a bit longer, I would check that if that half of the motors not already put together.

The engine is all together... and the crank is the 1.831" size then steps down to a smaller size

If you check the size where it steps down it wil be the smaller pilot size you mentioned, if you look at the convertors the big pilots arent very deep but the small pilots are longer to get further in the crank.

Oh, interesting. Well I ordered a smaller pilot one because worst case scenario I can just machine a bushing, I'll see if it fits as is first though.

I forgot to mention that I did get a new converter, its in, and within a couple days I now have the cab and front end on minus the hood, and other misc things. It's actually a truck now! It looks SWEET Very Happy

Did you have to make a bushing to make up for the smaller size?

Nope, like mentioned above the smaller size is longer to go in the smaller part of the crank. I was measuring the part where the bigger sized pilot would go. She fits like a glove, no issues with the pilot at all Very Happy
