572 P-51 Pump Gas Street Engine Dyno1

A huge thanks to Lem Evans for his *exceptional* customer service (and hospitality). I sent an email to Lem asking about building an engine for me. I got a CALL back within an hour! Lem took the time to talk to me about my goals, worked out some of my questions on unknowns... came back to me in a few days time with a price quote... and after a few changes, ADDITIONS and modifications came within dollars of his original quote... NO hidden suprises.

Big thanks for a job well done to Jet Boat Bob, super nice guy beautifull job on the build!... and Mike from Automotive Machine & Perf for the dyno session and help packing the big block for the long rige home!

Shane

Yes im very happy with the dyno results... I know I have left ALOT of potential on the table with the 10:1 compression for pump gas, and a relatively mild cam (and smallish 1050 carb too). but this *IS* a 100% street driven car, with alot of miles clocked at "cruises"...

this winter will be spend getting the chassis together to put this to the street...

I realize you have left some potential on the table , but do you realize that engine would run deep into the 5 second zone 1/8 mile in a 2400-2500 lb chassis car on pump gas affraid

Thats is awesome. I need a set-up like that. What size headers did you use? Do you plan on running it in any certain class or just street/ test & tune?

what do you think it will do in a 1/16 mile stoplight race Smile

this will be 100% street driven... ive owned that Torino since 1992 and have had no desire to drive it down the strip... I just enjoy beating up local rice burners and mid 90s camaros with huge rear tires. Smile

Very 572 P-51 Pump Gas Street Engine Icon_cool ! I agree 100% Shane. You can't beat those Evans/Hardison builds. Lem and Jet Boat Bob built my engine back in 2005, Charlie did the heads and T-ram. It has run flawlessly ever since we pulled it off of the dyno, and like you said, no surprises when I went and picked it up. The Kentucky Krew is very meticulous about their work 572 P-51 Pump Gas Street Engine Icon_cheers .

Thats what ive been doing since 1992 with my garage built, iron head 466. But technology has long since passed me up...

When I first built the car, mustangs and camaros came from the factory with under 250 hp... pretty easy kills... but as life has gone on... technology has passed me up (and aftermarket). Now cars come from the factory with 300, 400, 500hp... I also have a small personal vendetta against a local Shelby 500 mustang, and a supercharged fox body mustang. I hope to suprise them next time I see them Smile

Yeah you have some bigger targets not your average daily drivers lol. Should go pretty deep into the 10s if you took it to the track. I cant believe you dont want to run it. I race everything I own. Both of my trucks, my dads truck, my quad. Trying to get the gf to race her Saab too.

Shane,

You have very nice manifold distribution,,,,,left bank to right bank A/F ratio there on the dyno sheet. Also another good point is that the engine is making 742 Hp or more, from 5800 rpm to 6500 rpm. That's a nice broad Hp curve. Very Happy

Different strokes I guess... not everyone wants to get in the car, cruise around Woodward... park... hang out, cruise again... etc etc... but thats my thing.. Woodward dream cruise is my superbowl... I spend 9 or 10 days in a row cruisin.

I currently run Mickey Thompson street radials on there now. (275/65)... with a Detroit locker.
This winter the car will be mini tubbed and 4 linked... will get wider street radials. hopefully ill be able to put the power to the ground then!

Being a 2 torino owner myself I would not mini tub the car. Talk to other guys on this forum Tore,Greg,to mention a few who have high hp cars and run what is considered more of a street setup. I belive there is a Car
with 15x12 wheels Caltracs mono leaf springs Rancho 9 way adjustable shocks that if memory serves correctly has dipped into the 8 second zone. Nothing like a stock appearing suspension to make the competion think the car is not fast and won't hook. Just food for thought.

I agree... but Greg P's car *IS* minitubbed... and looks very good! Still retains a certain factory look. not over the top at all.

I personally DO like the look of fully tubbed cars... but also like cars that still look factory, with just slight mods. thats why I plan on going the mini tub route. there is a green 73 Mach 1 ( https://www.429-460.com/proven-builds-f4/1973-mach-1-t2953.htm ) that I think looks awesome with its mini tub. thats the look I am going for.

here is a pic of my engine with a slight makeover... being somewhat of a purist... I like the Ford blue better Smile

Im not saying anything about cruising I drive my truck everywhere. My truck has power steering, heat, full stereo, carpet, quietish exhaust. I dont own a trailer and have driven over 100 miles one way. Ive drove 60 miles to meet up for a race sprayed it and drove home. But I also frequent the track. We have many car meets around my way and I go to as many as I can. If I had your motor I would do the same.
