Incredible talent and vision right there!!!!! On these types of projects one has to work from the finished aspect backwards to even start the project. Many times a big undertaking like this never gets finished and turns into more than a lifetime project.

I sincerely mean you are an incredible craftsman, an inspiration to many not only from the quality of work but the drive that it takes to follow through and come full circle to completion. It's getting close now and I cant wait to see this thing finished.

Good job!!!

21:49:25Thank you.  -------  Yes we were involved in the utility shutdown. We were fortunate as our area only lasted 24 hours without power. It did disrupt things for about a week though and some people panicked made runs on grocery stores and gas stations. For people that have lived around here for awhile it was no big deal. There are some of us around here that know what bad is, we live on the eel river. Google 1964 flood eel river.  It completely isolated this area for quite some time.

25.1E ------- 64 Fairlane - Page 8 Empty Flex Plate recert

Post  QKiss on November 1st 2019, 11:43 pm

The flex plate I have is part of a TCI adapter kit along with a chevy P/G bolt pattern mid plate. The SFI 3 year cert timed out so I sent it back to TCI for recert. It is for a 4.5" stroke 557 that was never even started. When it was balanced there were a couple of shallow lighting holes drilled in the flex plate and TCI would not recertify it. My question is what are my options? A new flex plate would be out of balance?

Replicate the lightening holes in a new flexplate.

Post  QKiss on November 18th 2019, 11:11 pm

My engine builder confirmed the rotating assembly was internally balanced and the shallow drill dimples were for flex plate balance only.
He told me to tell TCI if they would balance there flex plates we would not need to do it. What is interesting about that statement is that the sales guy at TCI told me they don't balance there flex plates. Looks to me like there products are substandard and they have no intention of making it right. After multiple calls to them they refused to resert the flex plate. All I ask is to stand behind your product. The dimple holes are clean and very profesionally done and there is nothing wrong with the flex plate. They kept saying someone ground on it. I got it back today and there are no grinding marks on it anywhere. So as for me TCI has received the last dollar they will get from me.

Thanks for the positive comments.  Cool  ---  I think I got a bit carried away on this project but my buddies tell me --- Ya right what else is new. ---- I do enjoy the build.
One of the next items on the horizon is the airbrushing and lettering. My good friend Jeff of Jeff's Graphics in Twin Falls Idaho has done all my Pin-striping and lettering for more years than we care to remember. Jeff is a master at his craft and even though we are now 800 miles apart he is the only one I trust to finish the job as it should be. Can you say road trip. --- Qkiss

Any hints or renderings of the design or lettering? I never used to like naming a car but have grown more open to it with the rebirth of recreating the past now. I've been contemplating myself lettering an old 60s era car and naming it "Noise Pollution". I also really like an old altered wheelbase 55 chevy from back in the day that was called "Strictnine"... . Which was a popular brand of rat poison....lol.... I remember my great grandfather having that stuff around the farm.

Travis ----- Your idea of 60's cars needing names is my thinking also. This Fairlane body style is what the Thunderbolts were built on as factory Super Stock cars back in the day.  I would like to name this car something as a tribute to the Thunderbolts but I don't think the name Thunderbolt is appropriate as it is modified to much to even resemble a S/S car. I have kicked around a lot of names but nothing seemed to fit.
Was thinking about White Lightning for awhile. I mentioned my dilemma to Jeff my airbrush guy as he is good at coming up with names and phrases. A day later Jeff called me and I think he nailed it with --- Lightning bolt. I don't think my car fits this scenario but I have seen Jeff work with paint  schemes and graphics that do not look finished until lettering is finished.
