Once again CID limitations are comeing into play.... I have a set of Tf 340 heads and a A460 BLOCK . recomended bore for these heads is 4.500, Has any one here put together a large bore short stroke build... Im thinking 4.560. bore 3.590 stroke for a 469 cid..... Opinions , Thought's ????

I can tell you that when we checked, the 4.420 bore that I'm building will fit the 340 A head. So a stock stroke 472 A headed motor would be nice, but you will need to spin it to the moon to be worth while. I'm doing a 488 deal with a 3.975 crank. Cool

That would work.
I've done it a little different, several times.
4.500" bore with 3.70" stroke; (offset ground to Mopar journal size, 429 forged truck crank).
B M aluminum Mopar hemi rods 6.850" long.
(You can even use an "off the shelf" aftermarket 502 Chevrolet piston with a bit of dome modification).

The shorter you make the stroke ... the heavier the piston gets.

In the last ten years I have built 7 of these because it is so easy to build in order to specifically make a cubic inch limit under 480 with a 4.530" bore.
The venues included
1. sand drags
2. mud drags
3. truck pulling
4. hill climbing
5. street driven show-off truck

They are all a little different except for the type of head and whether the short block had steel or aluminum Mopar hemi rods. They ranged in compression ratio from 8/1 to 12.5/1; oh yea, one was supercharged.

Of course ... they all made a different power level.

Go with a standard piston, and a custom rod. You need not use shelf items for everything. But pick one or the other to save a dime.

Big bore short stroke, hell get a prostock block. 9.5" deck height, same as a 351W, but big bore, and do your build, Cut down on some of that rod length.

I got the privelege to hear that engine run in person, and it is one nasty sounding deal. I am not sure if Bret is still pulling with that engine or not, but it was a winner for sure. Twisted Evil

Sam, there are plenty of good guys here with the pulling engines, and Bret ranks right up there. I'm not sure that he is still lurking around here, but if he is and offers some help, you will know it's coming from a guy that has devoted a good part of his life to that particular form of motorsports. Dennis told me there was talk about my deal on here. So for an FYI, things have changed with my motor substantially since '07 except for the size of the motor. I will give a limited amount of current information, the dyno numbers really are no longer in the ballpark of where it is today. The block deck ht. is now only 10.070, uses a 4.56 bore, 3.59 stroke truck crank w/2.100 rod journals. The horsepower doesn't vary more than 17 horse from 7900 to where it peaks at 8500 and is making the same horsepower at 9000 as 7900. It is really a flat horsepower band for a small iron CJ limited head. It has taken second in only two of the last 15 hooks I have hooked and on both of these I had to let out of it substantially to keep the bouncing under control. Please excuse me if I'm sounding too prideful.

Anyway if I were going to do your A headed deal I'd shorten the deck as much as possible, run at least a 4.56 bore. And well.......... make it run.

And P.S. I do still lurk/look here I just have not had much time on my hands lately to say much.

The rules are really quite black and white Brad, I really don't see much of a way for a "rule adjustment". My motor meets the 473" OEM iron head, cast intake, single carb rule without issues.
